Indian Knowledge Systems (IKS) represent the cumulative intellectual, scientific, philosophical, and cultural traditions developed in Bharata over millennia. Far from being limited to abstract philosophy, IKS encompasses diverse disciplines such as mathematics, astronomy, linguistics, medicine, ecology, polity, and aesthetics— each of which is grounded in a holistic vision of life. At the Centre for Indic Studies, Indus University, we approach IKS not merely as a subject of historical interest, but as a living body of knowledge with contemporary relevance. Our courses are designed to introduce learners to foundational concepts, primary sources, and interpretative frameworks that allow for a deeper and more authentic understanding of India’s civilizational heritage.
The Centre has also played a pioneering role in shaping IKS as a formal academic discipline over the years. Through sustained research, curriculum development, and institutional engagement, we have contributed significantly to the recognition and structuring of IKS within higher education. Alongside student-oriented courses, we conduct dedicated teacher training programs to equip educators with the necessary conceptual clarity and pedagogical tools to teach IKS effectively. As a leading institution in this field, the Centre continues to serve as a hub for serious scholarship, capacity building, and the revitalization of Indic knowledge traditions in both academic and public domains.
